Veronica and Steve are designers in Jakarta, Indonesia. When they first contacted us to come over and shoot their wedding, we were so ecstatic. They wanted us to not only shoot their wedding, but also a pre-wedding session, with a twist. The outline for the day was pretty cruisy — “Let’s hang out, grab some food, we’ll show you around Jakarta and I guess we can take some photos along the way” — Hell yes! Indonesian food? Sight seeing? And photos? What a combo!
We hung around Old Batavia (Also known as ‘Old Jakarta’ or even ‘Kota’, take your pick!). It’s where the Dutch first settled in Jakarta and all the old city ruins are still there today. It was such an awesome place to shoot. We grabbed some food along the way, had some cake, shot some more, had some coffee, shot some more … and so on! We even made it down to the ‘antiques’ district and picked up some trinkets.
The next day was full swing into wedding day. Because of the confines of a typical Indonesian / Chinese wedding, they were unable to have photos on the day, so the entire wedding day was completely photojournalistic on our part — Battling with family members with cameras (They were out in force!). What a day! I’m bummed I couldn’t make it to Bali the following week with them for their second wedding / party — But alas, I had an absolute blast with Veronica and Steve and hope to see you both again soon for another walk around the city!
